FAQ's

Prior to getting started at SC4Kids, every patient must book a consultation. This is a special opportunity for the patient to familiarize themselves with the stylists, the salon and alter or establish a hair regimen. Getting your hair done for the first time or breaking old habits can be difficult therefore, having an initial meet and greet is very helpful.

If you have any questions about products and hair styles, please ask! There are various ways to reach out with a stylist however, sending a message directly from the website or sending a text to 512-635-8585 will get you the fastest response. Please refer to our “Do’s and Don’ts” tab for specific product suggestions.

The prices are not at fixed rates. Every patient has different needs. All of the prices that are listed are starting points and charges can be added depending on the additional services that are required.

If you are more than 30 minutes late for your appointment, your appointment will be canceled and the deposit will not be refunded. If you are more than 30 minutes late picking up your child, you will be charged $1 for every minute you are late.

Yes, you must have your child’s hair taken down prior to their hair appointment. Each appointment has a designated time for it to be completed therefore, additional time may not be allotted for a take down and detangle and your appointment will be canceled. Additionally, it is vital for hair to be taken down at least 2-3 days before their appointment. A hair take-down, detangle, and style can be too much for a child to handle in one day. We want to ensure that every child has a great experience at SC4Kids. Please reach out to our salon manager if you are in need of accommodations.

It is always important to bring a backpack with healthy snacks, a closed container of water and/or juice and something to keep your child preoccupied during their appointment such as toys, a tablet, coloring books and crayons or a self-soothing object. Toddler’s that are still learning salon etiquette and to lean their head back in the shampoo bowl may require an extra shirt.

Our salon schedule opens 8 weeks in advance therefore, you are able to schedule an appointment that is two months ahead.

Spill and mess-proof food are allowed. Snacks are preferable. Be mindful that we do not have a refrigerator or a microwave. Food that is delivered to the salon is acceptable however, bringing a prepared meal is the most time effective.

Our facilities are for children only. The kids are learning how to use the restroom and we would like for the bathroom to stay as sanitary as possible.

Our salon is located inside a city building. The doors are open based on the corresponding hours of the city therefore, you will have to call the salon to enter during the weekends, evenings and holidays.

We only allow the patient being serviced in the salon during their appointment. We do not allow any parents or other children to stay in the salon.

We only offer services for children.

Although we offer silk presses as a service, you must have a stylist’s approval to book for it. At SC4Kids, we value healthy hair over anything else and a silk press requires excessive heat that only healthy, mature hair can tolerate.

At SC4Kids we strive to ensure that every service is completed with excellence however, in the case that one is unsatisfied with their appointment, the best way to find a resolve is to reach out directly to the salon manager with your concern via email sc4kidsinc@gmail.com or via text at 512-635-8585.

We have created a salon environment that is conducive to collaboration. All of the stylists work together to make sure that each appointment runs smoothly. It is also important for children to be acclimated and comfortable with all the hair pediatricians therefore we do not allow parents to choose a specific stylist.

All invoices must be paid prior to receiving another appointment.

Debit/Credit, Cash, Apple and Android Pay are acceptable forms of payment. We do not accept personal checks.

On average, each appointment is two and half hours. This is only an estimate and it is important to understand that every patient has different needs that can take more or less time.

Please let us know if you have time constraints prior to their appointment.

At SC4Kids, we take the time to train all of the patients to have salon etiquette. This includes learning how to sit and shampoo properly, and enjoy their hair experience. SC4Kids is fully equipped to handle situations regarding behavior; however, a stylist may request that a patient schedule a salon etiquette class if they need additional support. On the day of their appointment, if the patient is not in the mental state for hair time, we will reschedule for another day.

Luckily the salon is located in downtown, east Austin in the African-American Historical District and there are ample opportunities to explore and try different things in the area. Some of our favorites are the Carver Library and Hillside Pharmacy. You can also take a gander at our historical black college: Huston-Tillotson University or site seeing through the monuments at the Capital on east 11th Street. We strongly encourage parents to take advantage of this time alone.

One of our core values at SC4Kids is autonomy. We believe it is important to instill independence at an early age to ensure that as the children grow, they are aware of their responsibilities to their hair and themselves. We do allow style suggestions however, we encourage parents and children to select styles that best suit their hair texture and type.
